Ms. Lanbo Yang serves as the head of the Healthcare and Life Sciences Department and head of the Data Compliance Department at Hengtai Law Offices.
With over 20 years of cross-border experience, Ms. Yang combines top-tier corporate legal leadership with prestigious law firm expertise. Prior to joining Hengtai, Lanbo served as Senior Director of the Legal Department at Medtronic China and head of Legal and Compliance Department at Gilead Sciences China. She also has professional experience practicing law in both U.S. and European law firms.
Ms. Yang is good at providing enterprises with strategic solutions that deeply integrate business insights and legal effectiveness. She not only focuses on risk prevention and dispute resolution but also is committed to accurately grasping industry policies, deeply participating in corporate governance, and achieving a transition from a legal compliance support advisor to a partner for creating business value together.
While working at Medtronic, Ms. Yang played a leading role in response to the National Development and Reform Commission’s anti-monopoly investigation into the company—the first such case in the medical device industry in China. She has also represented multinational medical device companies in complex cases, including litigation concerning former executive liabilities and cross-border equity transfer litigation, using precise legal strategies to maximize clients’ core interests.
Notable projects led by Ms. Yang include assisting CSPC Pharmaceutical Group in concluding its strategic collaboration with Pfizer on COVID-19 treatment and assisting a European enterprise in completing the execution and filing of standard contractual clauses for outbound transfer of personal information. These projects were awarded the LegalOne Merits (Exemplary) ratings.
Ms. Yang has been honored with prestigious industry distinctions, including recognition as “Ingenious Lawyer in Data Compliance” and “Leading Lawyer in Biopharmaceuticals and Healthcare” and inclusion in “GRCD Top 15 Client Preferred Lawyers in Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery in China” and “Compliance & Regulatory Leading Lawyers”.
Specializing in healthcare and life sciences, Ms. Yang provides comprehensive legal services covering the following areas: compliance and regulatory matters, including anti-bribery, anti-monopoly, advertising compliance, and related fields; data compliance, focusing on personal information protection, cross-border data transfer, human genetic resources compliance; transactions and collaboration, including patent licensing, R&D collaboration agreement design, M&A and investment legal services, providing full-process support such as transaction structure design and due diligence; clinical trials, covering compliance review and adverse events handling; corporate governance and commercial dispute resolution, optimizing governance structure and efficiently handling various civil and commercial disputes to protect the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises; labor and employment, including labor contract review, formulation of employee handbooks and rules and regulations, labor disputes mediation and litigation, employee termination, non-competition and trade secret protection, and equity incentive plan design.
Ms. Yang is a member of the Shanghai Bar Association’s Healthcare Committee and the Wolters Kluwer Pharmaceutical Industry Compliance Expert Committee. She has authored influential professional works including the Data Compliance Practical Guide and Practical Guidelines for Pharmaceutical Anti-Corruption Compliance. She is also regularly invited to lead customized compliance training for client teams and to host seminars on critical industry issues, including medical anti-corruption and MAH system compliance, in collaboration with leading professional platforms.
