Ms. Lanbo Yang serves as the head of the Healthcare and Life Sciences Department and head of the Data Compliance Department at Hengtai Law Offices.
With over 20 years of cross-border experience, Ms. Yang combines top-tier corporate legal leadership with prestigious law firm expertise. Prior to joining Hengtai, Lanbo served as Senior Director of the Legal Department at Medtronic China and head of Legal and Compliance Department at Gilead Sciences China. She also has professional experience practicing law in both U.S. and European law firms.
While working at Medtronic, Ms. Yang played a leading role in response to the National Development and Reform Commission's anti-monopoly investigation into the company--the first such case in the medical device industry in China. She has represented multinational medical device companies in several landmark cases, including fiduciary duty disputes and cross-border equity transfer litigation.
Ms. Yang has been recognized with numerous accolades, including “Ingenious Lawyer in Data Compliance” and “Leading Lawyer in Biopharmaceuticals and Healthcare.” She has also been listed among the “GRCD Top 15 Client Preferred Lawyers in Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery in China.” Her work on high-profile matters, such as the strategic collaboration between CSPC Pharmaceutical Group and Pfizer on COVID-19 treatment and the execution and filing of standard contractual clauses for personal information outbound transfer for a European enterprise, have received LegalOne Merits (Exemplary) ratings, underscoring her widely recognized professional expertise.
Specializing in the healthcare and life sciences sector, Ms. Yang excels at integrating legal expertise with business operations to provide comprehensive legal services. Her practice covers compliance and regulatory matters (anti-bribery, antitrust, advertising compliance), data compliance (personal information protection, cross-border data transfer, human genetic resources compliance), patent licensing and R&D collaborations, clinical trial compliance and adverse event handling, investment and financing M&A, corporate governance, and commercial dispute resolution. She is dedicated to delivering solutions that combine business insight with legal effectiveness.
Ms. Yang is a member of the Healthcare Committee of the Shanghai Lawyers Association and serves on the Expert Committee for Intelligent Compliance in the Pharmaceutical Industry at Wolters Kluwer. She has co-published several practical guides, including the Data Compliance Practical Guide and the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Enterprise Data Compliance Practical Guide with Wolters Kluwer, as well as compliance guides on anti-corruption in the pharmaceutical industry.
